BACKGROUND
What is Wiley?
Wiley is is an American multinational publishing company that focuses on academic publishing, education, and research.
OVERVIEW
A Brief Summary
During my at the company, I played a key role in improving an internal tool designed to help editors efficiently manage special issues for publications. I also contributed to the initial exploration of enhancing the text editing and quality control experience for articles. The collaborative environment at Wiley coupled with Agile workflows and hybrid teamwork across global teams, offered a perfect setting for my professional development. While NDA prevent me from sharing specific project details, I am happy to discuss my experience further. Feel free to contact me at yl3262@cornell.edu.
First internship, my takeaways:
Understand Complex User Flow
It’s important to understand the real use case scenario and conduct user research for clarification before jumping into the designing processes. Took me a week to finish reading documents and understand context but was totally worth it!
Design System is the Foundation
Building and reusing components can save a lot of repetitive work. Having a solid design system in place is key to keeping things consistent across all of an organization’s products.
Collaboration with a Global Team
I made sure to confirm requirements with the product owner and keep developers in the loop on the latest design changes. Design isn’t a solo game—it's all about teamwork and keeping everyone on the cross-functional team aligned.
